Copia Investment Partners and HSBC Asset Management launch Global Infrastructure Equity Fund to Australian retail investors

Updated: Feb 28

Copia Investment Partners has announced an Australian distribution partnership with HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) to deliver the HSBC Global Infrastructure Equity Fund (the fund) to Australian retail investors, which has been available to institutional and wholesale HSBC clients globally since 2022.

The active fund aims to provide long term total returns and invests in a diversified portfolio of listed infrastructure assets across four sector verticals: Utilities, Energy, Transportation, and Communications.

The fund uses a bottom-up quality and valuation-based investment approach. The identification and analysis of a company’s ESG credentials is an integral part of the investment decision-making process.

As of 31 December 2023, the composite portfolio returned 11.7% per annum over five years (before fees, unhedged in USD). This compares to the Dow Jones Brookfield Global Infrastructure Index (unhedged and in USD) which returned 7.0% per annum.

Sam Baillieu, Chief Executive Officer of Copia Investment Partners, welcomed the partnership: “We are thrilled to partner with HSBC AM to deliver this strategy to Australian retail investors. This fund will have widespread appeal with investors seeking exposure to an investment strategy with long term capital growth that accounts for inflation. We are pleased to welcome a global infrastructure strategy to the Copia stable as we continue to offer advisers and their clients a versatile selection of quality strategies to meet the changing needs of investors,”.

The fund is managed by HSBC AM’s Listed Infrastructure Equity Team split across London and Sydney, led by London-based Giuseppe Corona, Head of Listed Real Assets, Alternatives.

“We are excited to expand this strategy to Australian retail investors, which has proven success with our institutional and wholesale clients. It’s great to be partnering with the Copia team who are experts in retail distribution in the local market,” said Mr Corona.

“From what we’re seeing, the infrastructure sector is at the beginning of a multi-decade investment cycle, due to secular trends such as digitalisation. We also have a solid investment team on the ground in Australia that are dedicated to delivering the best returns for clients,” he added.

The fund will be available to Australian retail investors through Copia Investment Partners’ Product Disclosure Statement application.
